Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
PSAC represents 75 Treaty Three Police officers who work for the Treaty
Three Police Service.
Treaty Three Police Service is responsible for policing 55,000 square miles
of Treaty Three Territory in Northwestern Ontario, which includes more than
15,000 people residing in 23 First Nations Communities.
The creation of this First Nations policing was to provide an effective,
efficient and culturally sensitive police service to First Nations communities.
The Treaty Three Police Board has threatened to shut down the service on
August 19, 2013 unless the officers give in to their ultimatums of slashing
their pay, cutting maternity and paternity benefits, and dropping all
grievances.
Community members have been rallying to save their police service and have
started a community Facebook Page “Save the Treaty 3 Police”: www.facebook.com/SaveT3PS
Please Like and Share this Facebook page and make sure to sign and
circulate the online petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/496/697/535/save-the-treaty-three-police/
The community support has been tremendous and we need to keep up the
pressure on this Employer to reverse their decision on shutting down the
service.
In Solidarity,
Sharon DeSousa,
PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President - Ontario
